Egg Community Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 3, 2026
Effective date: May 3, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Egg Community ("Egg Community", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, discloses, retains, and protects information when you use The Egg mobile application, related web pages, and related services (collectively, the "Service").
Egg Community is a local community marketplace and social networking app for neighbors to connect, post items or requests, chat, share, borrow, lend, buy, sell, host or discover meetups, and build community reputation through ratings and trust signals.
This policy applies to the iOS and Android app identified as:
- iOS Bundle ID:
com.theegg.marketplace - Android Package Name:
com.theegg.marketplace
Privacy contact: theegg.devops@gmail.com
If the developer or legal entity listed in an app store listing is different from "Egg Community", that listed entity is responsible for the Service and should be understood as included in "we", "us", and "our" for that store listing.
Summary
This summary is provided for convenience. The rest of this Privacy Policy contains the complete terms.
- We collect information needed to run a neighborhood marketplace: account information, profile information, posts, photos, messages, ratings, friendships, blocks, reports, notification preferences, device information, approximate location or location information you provide, and app diagnostics.
- Other users may see information you choose to share, including your public profile, posts, reputation signals, ratings, and activity that is visible under your privacy settings.
- Direct messages are intended for chat participants, but they may be reviewed by us or our service providers when needed for safety, abuse prevention, support, legal compliance, or when a message is reported.
- We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your personal information for third-party targeted advertising.
- We use service providers to operate the Service, including Supabase for authentication, database, storage, realtime features, and backend functions; Expo, Apple, and Google for push notifications and app infrastructure; Sentry for crash and error diagnostics; and Mixpanel for analytics if analytics are enabled.
- We use push notification tokens only to send app notifications you request or permit, such as messages, responses, friend requests, ratings, and community activity.

- Third-party websites, apps, payment services, messaging tools, or services that you access outside Egg Community, even if another user links to them.
- In-person exchanges, meetings, payments, deliveries, or other offline actions between users. Those are between the users involved.
- App store platforms, mobile operating systems, and device manufacturers, which process information under their own privacy policies.

2.4 Messages and Chat Information
If you use chat, we may collect:
- Chat participants.
- Message text.
- Message timestamps and read state.
- Chat status, muted, pinned, archived, or deleted state.
- Last-message summaries used to render inboxes.

If you choose to upload images, we may collect:
- Photos selected from your device.
- Photos taken with your camera through the app.
- Image file names, dimensions, file type, file size, thumbnails, and storage paths.
- Generated image versions used by the app.
We request access to your camera or photo library only when you use a feature that needs it, such as profile photos, post photos, or chat images. We do not access your full photo library unless your device permission choice allows that access, and we do not upload photos unless you select or capture them for use in the Service.
Where supported by the app workflow, we re-encode uploaded images to strip EXIF metadata, including GPS and device metadata, before upload. Because image handling depends on operating system behavior and user actions, you should avoid uploading images that reveal sensitive information you do not want others to see.
2.6 Location Information
Egg Community uses location information to support local discovery and neighborhood community features.
We may collect:
- City and neighborhood you enter in your profile.
- Location information you enter in posts, listings, events, or messages.
- Location suggestions you search for or select.
- Approximate coordinates or location keys derived from your profile or post location, when needed for local discovery and proximity filtering.
- Device location if you use an app feature that asks for location permission.
The app is intended to use location in a local and contextual way. We do not sell location information. We do not use location information for third-party targeted advertising. We do not continuously collect background location unless a future version expressly asks for that permission and you grant it. You can control device location permissions in your device settings.
2.7 Friendships, Blocks, Reports, Moderation, and Trust Signals
To support community safety and trust, we may collect:
- Friend requests, accepted friendships, mutual-friend signals, and friend list visibility state.

Reports and moderation data may be reviewed by our team or service providers who help us operate and secure the Service. We may preserve moderation records even after certain content or accounts are deleted where reasonably necessary for safety, fraud prevention, dispute handling, legal compliance, or enforcement.
2.8 Notifications
If you enable notifications, we may collect and process:
- Push notification token.
- Device platform, such as iOS, Android, or web.
- Device name if provided.
- Notification preferences.
- Notification events, such as friend requests, responses, messages, ratings, post expiration reminders, post fulfillment reminders, reposts, welcome messages, and system notices.
- Notification read, dismissed, actioned, sent, failed, deferred, or suppressed state.
We use this information to send, route, deduplicate, troubleshoot, suppress, defer, or revoke notifications. Push notification delivery may involve Expo, Apple Push Notification service, and Google/Firebase Cloud Messaging.
You can disable notifications in the app where controls are available and in your device settings. When you log out, the app attempts to revoke the stored push token on a best-effort basis.
2.9 Device, App, Network, and Diagnostic Information
We may collect technical information needed to operate, secure, and improve the Service, including:
- Device type, operating system, app version, build number, runtime version, platform, and environment.
- Crash reports, error reports, stack traces, performance traces, and session diagnostics.

- Opaque IDs, such as account IDs, post IDs, chat IDs, item IDs, notification IDs, and request IDs.
- Security and authentication events.
- Server logs, request metadata, timestamps, and error codes.
We configure diagnostics to reduce personal data exposure. For example, Sentry is configured not to send default personally identifiable information, not to attach screenshots, and to sanitize events and breadcrumbs. Mixpanel is configured with IP address collection disabled where our app configuration is in effect. Analytics payloads are sanitized before dispatch to remove or redact emails, phone numbers, tokens, coordinates, freeform user text, message bodies, and other sensitive values where supported by the app code.
2.10 Analytics and Product Usage Information
If analytics are enabled, we may collect product usage events such as:
- Account login or logout events.
- Screen views.
- Feature usage.
- Post, response, search, chat, notification, and profile interaction events.
- Counts, durations, category or post type enums, status values, and operational metadata.
- Opaque user ID or device/app identifiers used to understand app usage.
We use analytics to understand whether the Service works, improve features, debug issues, measure adoption, and prioritize product development. We do not use analytics for third-party targeted advertising.
2.11 Support and Communications
If you contact us, we may collect:
- Your name, email address, and contact details.
- The content of your message.

3. Information We Do Not Intend to Collect
Egg Community is not designed to collect:
- Payment card numbers, bank account numbers, or government ID numbers.
- Biometric identifiers, such as face geometry or fingerprint templates.
- Precise background location on a continuous basis.
- Health information.
- Contact lists.
- Advertising identifiers for third-party targeted advertising.
If a future version adds features that require new sensitive data, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide notices or consent prompts where required.
Do not include sensitive personal information in profile text, posts, messages, photos, reports, ratings, or other user-generated content unless you understand that it may be processed and, depending on your settings and the feature, shown to other users.

6.5 Ratings, Vouches, Reports, and Blocks
Ratings and vouches may be visible as trust and reputation signals. Reports and blocks are generally not shown to the reported or blocked user as a full record, but the effects of a block, moderation action, suspension, or ban may be visible or communicated where appropriate.
7. How We Disclose Information
We may disclose information as described below.
7.1 To Other Users
We disclose information to other users when needed for the Service, including:
- Public or visible profile information.
- Posts, listings, photos, locations, ratings, vouches, reposts, and trust signals.
- Messages and attachments to chat participants.
- Friend request information to the sender or receiver.
- Notification-related context, such as who sent a friend request or responded to a post.
- Information necessary to complete, rate, or review an exchange.
7.2 To Service Providers
We disclose information to service providers that help us operate the Service. They may process information on our behalf and subject to their own contractual, technical, and legal obligations.
Current or expected service providers include:
- Supabase: authentication, database, storage, realtime subscriptions, backend functions, and related infrastructure.
- Expo and Expo Application Services: app updates, push-notification infrastructure, build/distribution infrastructure, and related app services.
- Apple and Apple Push Notification service: iOS app distribution, platform services, and push notification delivery.

- Comply with law, regulation, subpoena, court order, or other legal process.
- Respond to lawful requests from public authorities.
- Enforce terms, policies, community rules, or agreements.
- Investigate fraud, security issues, abuse, harassment, threats, or harmful conduct.
- Protect the rights, safety, privacy, property, or security of users, Egg Community, our team, or the public.
- Prevent death, physical harm, financial harm, or other serious harm.
7.4 Business Transfers
If Egg Community is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, bankruptcy, or similar transaction, information may be disclosed, transferred, or evaluated as part of that transaction, subject to appropriate confidentiality and legal protections.
7.5 Aggregated or De-Identified Information
We may disclose aggregated, de-identified, or anonymized information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you. For example, we may disclose overall usage counts, category trends, or safety metrics.
8. No Sale of Personal Information and No Targeted Advertising
We do not sell personal information.
We do not share personal information for third-party cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising.
We do not show third-party behavioral ads in the app.
We may use analytics to understand how users use the Service, but we configure our app analytics to avoid advertising use and to minimize sensitive data.
9. Device Permissions
The Service may request device permissions. You can control permissions in your device settings.
9.1 Camera and Photos
Used to let you upload profile images, post images, and chat images.
9.2 Notifications
Used to send push notifications about app activity, such as messages, friend requests, responses, ratings, post reminders, and system notices.
9.3 Location
Used only if a feature asks for location permission and you grant it. The app also lets you provide city, neighborhood, and post locations manually.
9.4 Local Authentication
If a future or optional feature uses device biometrics or passcode prompts, the app uses the operating system's local authentication flow. We do not receive or store your fingerprint, face scan, iris scan, or biometric template.
9.5 Clipboard, Sharing, and Media Export
If you use sharing, clipboard, screenshot, or export features, the app or your operating system may process the content you choose to share.
10. Local Storage on Your Device
The app stores some information locally to keep the Service usable and secure. Local storage may include:
- Auth session tokens.
- App settings and preferences.
- Feature state, filters, selected options, and cache data.
- Push notification token.
- Opaque IDs and timestamps.
On native iOS and Android builds, auth tokens are stored using SecureStore, which uses Keychain/Keystore-backed storage where available. We intentionally avoid storing auth tokens in plain AsyncStorage on native devices at runtime.
The app is designed to avoid persisting sensitive freeform drafts, message bodies, recent search query text, or raw user-authored content in unencrypted local storage. Some temporary state may exist in memory while the app is running.
Deleting the app from your device may remove local app data, but it does not automatically delete your account or server-side data.
11. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. These measures may include:
- Encryption in transit using TLS.
- Provider-managed encryption at rest where supported.
- Supabase row-level security and access policies.
- Authentication and session controls.
- Secure native auth-token storage using SecureStore/Keychain/Keystore where available.
- Push token ownership checks and revocation flows.
- Telemetry sanitization for analytics and error reporting.
- Sentry screenshots disabled to avoid capturing private screens.
- Image metadata stripping for uploaded images where supported by the app workflow.
- Block, report, suspension, and moderation systems.
- Access restrictions for administrative and moderation functions.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed.
12. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.
Retention periods depend on the type of information and context.
12.1 Account and Profile Data
We generally retain account and profile data while your account is active. If your account is deleted, we delete or de-identify associated account and profile information within a reasonable period, subject to the exceptions below.
12.2 Posts, Listings, Photos, and Community Content
We retain posts, listings, photos, and related activity while they are active or needed for the Service. Deleted, expired, fulfilled, or moderated content may be retained for a period in backups, audit logs, moderation records, safety records, or legal records.
12.3 Chat Messages and Attachments
We retain chat messages and attachments while needed to provide chat history, support safety, enforce policies, comply with law, and maintain user experience. Deleting a chat locally may hide it from your inbox without deleting every copy from all participants or backend systems.
12.4 Notifications and Push Tokens
Notification records are periodically cleaned up. Current backend retention logic is designed to delete:
- Read notifications after approximately 30 days from read time.
- Dismissed notifications after approximately 7 days from dismissal.
- Unread notifications after approximately 90 days from creation.
Push tokens may be deactivated when revoked or when stale. Current backend logic is designed to deactivate push tokens that have not been re-registered for approximately 60 days.
12.5 Analytics and Diagnostics
Analytics and diagnostics are retained for as long as needed to understand usage, operate, troubleshoot, secure, and improve the Service, and according to the retention settings of the relevant service providers.
12.6 Reports, Moderation, Safety, and Legal Records
Reports, moderation actions, safety records, audit trails, fraud-prevention records, and legal records may be retained after account deletion or content deletion where reasonably necessary to protect users, enforce policies, prevent abuse, resolve disputes, comply with law, or establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
12.7 Backups
Deleted information may remain in backups for a limited period until those backups are overwritten or deleted through normal backup cycles.
13. Account Deletion and Data Deletion
You may request account deletion or data deletion by contacting:
Please include the email address associated with your account and state that you are requesting account deletion or data deletion. We may need to verify your identity before completing the request.
When we delete an account in response to a verified request, we will take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify personal information associated with that account within 30 days, unless retention is required or permitted for safety, fraud prevention, legal compliance, dispute resolution, financial records, moderation, security, backup, or other legitimate purposes.
Deleting your account may not remove:
- Information other users already viewed, copied, screenshotted, saved, or shared.
- Messages retained in another participant's account or records.
- Ratings, reports, moderation records, audit trails, or safety records that we reasonably need to preserve.
- Aggregated, de-identified, or anonymized information.
- Information retained in backups until normal backup deletion cycles complete.
You may also delete or edit some content from within the app where those features are available.
14. Your Privacy Choices
Depending on your location and the feature, you may have the choices below.
14.1 Account and Profile
You can update certain profile information in the app, such as name, username, avatar, bio, city, neighborhood, and privacy settings where available.
14.2 Profile Visibility
You can choose privacy settings that control who can see your full profile, posts, friends list, activity status, and profile details where available.
14.3 Notifications
You can change notification preferences in the app where available and in your device settings.
14.4 Device Permissions
You can grant, deny, or revoke camera, photo, notification, and location permissions in your device settings.
14.5 Analytics and Diagnostics
Some analytics and diagnostics are necessary to operate, secure, and improve the Service. Where legally required or technically available, we will provide additional choices.
14.6 Marketing
Egg Community does not currently describe marketing emails as a core app feature. If we send marketing communications in the future, we will provide an unsubscribe or opt-out mechanism where required.
15. Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Know whether we process your personal information.
- Access personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Request deletion of personal information.
- Request a portable copy of personal information.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
- Opt out of sale, sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising, targeted advertising, or certain profiling where those activities occur.
- Appeal a denied privacy request where applicable law provides an appeal right.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising privacy rights.
To exercise privacy rights, contact:
We may ask you to provide information reasonably necessary to verify your identity and locate your account. If you use an authorized agent, we may require proof of authorization and may still ask you to verify your identity directly.
We will respond to privacy requests within the time required by applicable law. If we deny a request, you may appeal by replying to our response and stating that you are appealing the decision.

19. International Users
Egg Community is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the United States, you understand that information may be processed in the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate.
